Preventing Rape and Sexual Assault
Rape advocacy, activism, and awareness-raising continued this week at a variety of college campuses. At the University of Kentucky, the student volunteers of Women’s Place organized a performance of “SOARS” (Story of a Rape Survivor), a play written by the sister of a woman who was raped in her freshman year of college (with help from the victim herself). Students contacted SOARS and organized the event, which drew over 250 attendees. At Boston College, the Women’s Resource Center, together with the Women of Color Caucus, the Campus Ministry, Sisters Influencing and Empowering Sisters Through Assembly (SIESTA), the Undergraduate Government of Boston College, Women's Issues, and campus Health Services, is holding CARE (Concerned About Rape Education) Week, an annual event to raise awareness about sexual assault and rape.
