Protecting the Mexican Student Press

Texas Christian University may use their sister-school relationship with Universidad de las Americas (UDLA) in Mexico to help protect the student journalists of UDLA’s paper La Catarina. The staff of The Skiff (TCU’s student paper) helped launch La Catarina back in 2000, and they have maintained a relationship since. La Catarina was recently closed down by their administration; accounts of the closure vary, but students say it was due to a cartoon criticizing the Universidad’s chancellor. Texas Christian is reassessing its ties with UDLA as a result.
