Refugee for a Night

Date: 11/17/2008 05:28 pm

Students at Boston University organized and participated in a mock refugee camp last week, spending a night outside in tents in a camp that was made to look like the Chikar refugee camp in Pakistani Kashmir, which housed thousands of refugees after the 2005 earthquake. Student volunteers played refugees in the process of looking for family members, receiving ration cards, and filling out paperwork for emigration to other countries. Students from Invisible Children United at the University of Georgia pitched cardboard tents on the campus plaza in a 12-hour event designed to raise awareness of the conditions in Internally Displaced Person Camps in Uganda.
