Every year over 4,600 Relay for Life all night team walkathons are held to raise money for the American Cancer Society, many on college campuses. However, in light of the weak economy, students at Florida A&M University are starting to worry they won't meet their financial goals for this year’s events. Relay for Life at FAMU needs more than $30,000 to reach its goal; it has only raised $1,300 at this point. "A lot of companies that we have contacted said they can't afford to give the monetary donations they usually give,” said event chair Dominique Bercy. “It is extremely hard to raise $35,000 during a recession, but we have faith in our campus.” Event chairs are expecting more teams to sign up as the event approaches. This will be the seventh year FAMU will hold a Relay for Life.
