Articles this week take a look at the changing face of information, and ways students are utilizing technology to do their research. A Daily Illini article considers an assertion from the Chronicle of Higher Education that—in spite young people’s apparent tech savvy—many students are unable to do basic academic research and rely too heavily on non-academic sources (like Wikipedia). There’s debate over whether students are actually unable to do the research, or just not doing it for other reasons (like laziness or poor time management). Princeton University has made recordings of public lectures available by podcast. There are over 800 podcasts available, with lectures dating back to 1998. Princeton has been publicly offering video lectures for some years, but cited podcast technology as an advantage. Although the University was reportedly thinking of a non-student audience when deciding to podcast, students interviewed for this article planned to take advantage of the new format.
