Scholarship Fund for Students with Drug Convictions

The Eagle reports that Berkeley is the latest school to start a scholarship fund for students affected by a national drug-conviction education penalty. The penalty, which arrived in the form of an amendment to the 1998 Higher Education Act, prohibits students with drug convictions from receiving federal financial aid. Berkeley follows Yale University, Swarthmore College, Western Washington University, and Hampshire College in the creation of a scholarship fund. Nationwide, nearly 200,000 students are affected by the law. Student opinions on the scholarship are mixed at American.
