Students at the University of Washington, the University of Arizona, and Indiana University participated in the Day of Silence, not speaking for a day to raise awareness of gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender issues. University of Washington students held a Silent Procession and the Night of Noise rally in recognition of the day, and University of Arizona students handed out cards or wore signs that explained their lack of speech. Indiana University’s Day of Silence was preceded by a week of events, and closed with a march.
