Students at the University of Kansas will have to wait to receive their flu shots this season. The University cancelled flu clinics due to a shortage in supply, leaving only one clinic to service a portion of the faculty. Those who could not receive the shot will still have the opportunity to get one at a later date.
Kansas Health Policy Authority held a small clinic, giving 550 free flu shots to KU faculty and retirees who are enrolled in a state health plan.
Julie Faust, a state health plan employee, said it’s the first time the Kansas Health Policy Authority has held the clinic to give the shots under the state employee health plan. Within the first 30 minutes of the clinic’s operating hours, around half the shots had already been administered.
Bob Hagen, biology professor at KU, said the shots were worth the wait. “I was here because it was free, I didn’t mind spending an hour if it meant not spending $25,” he said.
KU is still waiting for an additional shipment for faculty and students, but when it will arrive is still unknown.
