Voter registration drives, particularly ones aimed at students, have faced obstacles in recent weeks. In Virginia’s Montgomery County and Colorado’s El Paso County, students were told that registering under their college address would cause them to lose their car and health insurance, or even their financial aid. But student votes aren’t the only ones in jeopardy. Minority and low-income voters are also targets for voter fraud. With the national rate of foreclosures skyrocketing, many homeowners could find their votes discounted if they fail to register under a new address. Voters in Wisconsin have even been receiving absentee ballot requests with misleading information that would have them send their ballots to the wrong registrar, increasing the chances of their forms getting lost or misplace before the deadline.
