Student Pushes Green Activism at Flagler College
A student at Flagler College hopes to advance global environmental initiatives and local student activism with the inclusion of a Greenpeace chapter on the Florida campus. Victoria Priester, a 21-year-old junior at Flagler, is pressing for the incorporation of the green campaigning organization in order to promote eco-friendly solutions to global problems while also raising student interest in political activism.
“I’m incredibly passionate about the environment and conservation, and I feel that there’s not enough activism on campus,” Priester said.
While she is still currently awaiting a decision on the Greenpeace chapter from the college’s SGA, Priester plans to organize a picnic for Flagler students and faculty on Oct. 24 in celebration of the International Day of Climate Action.
On a more international scale, Priester hopes the day of action will prove influential amongst the participants of the United Nations Climate Change Conference which is set to take place Dec. 9 to 18 in Copenhagen, Denmark.
“If there are enough people gathering worldwide to show their support for climate reform, [it calls] attention for an outcry to dissatisfied residents of the Earth,” she said. “A green, sustainable environment is something we all strive for. Uniting manpower and passion can only further our common goal.”
