Students at Brown Discuss Possible Solutions for Darfur

During the Northeast Regional Conference for STAND (Students Taking Action Now: Darfur), over 200 students from regional high schools and colleges met to learn about—and act to solve— the Darfur genocide. Assorted speakers, including Anthony Lake (National Security Adviser under President Clinton), actress Mia Farrow, and Fatima Haroun (a Darfuri woman and speaker), also discussed the situation in Darfur and proposed solutions. Students were invested, and the event was not without some controversy—especially surrounding the idea of unilateral American military intervention if necessary to stop the genocide.
