Students Boycott Local Restaurants
Students at Columbia University are calling for a boycott of two local restaurants accused of contracting with Sunrise Plus Corporation (a noted labor violator, according to the Industrial Workers of the World). The Students for Economic and Environmental Justice say that Sunrise Plus Corporation commits numerous labor violations and should be avoided. Students are also showing their domestic labor justice support at Pomona College, where housekeeping staff is engaged in a labor dispute with the administration. Students have helped the workers with their campaign, and during a recent meeting between housekeeping staff and the College President, about 60 students demonstrated in support of the workers.
