Students Commemorate Fourth Anniversary of the War in Iraq
March 20 marked the fourth year of America’s war and occupation in Iraq, and students across the country are using this week to protest, demonstrate, and reflect on the war. Students marched in protests at the Pentagon, organized their own on-campus protests, viewed the traveling “Eyes Wide Open” exhibit, walked out of classes, and organized a drive to collect supplies for soldiers overseas. From contemplative to angry, philanthropic to expressive, the variety of student action shows a broad range of campus feeling. And while the results of student organizing at some schools are drawing hard-won comparisons to the protests of the 1960s, the activists of other campuses express sadness and frustration at the lack engagement they’re able to see.
