Students Consider Palestinians’ Plight

Date: 11/17/2008 4:28 pm

At both student-sponsored actions and department-sponsored events, students showed their interest in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict at a several schools. The Students for Justice in Palestine at Bryn Mawr College hosted a Palestine Day as part of International Justice Week, featuring a lecture and a Palestinian checkpoint simulation. Harvard students are taking advantage of an opportunity to view an exhibit of photographs taken by Palestinian photographers who are college-aged or slightly younger. The exhibit, which is currently on a six-city tour, shows the realities of living inside Palestinian refugee camps. At Northwestern University, a Muslim Palestinian, a Jewish Israeli, and a Christian Palestinian brought their views of non-violent activism and shared visions of peace to a group of 50 as part of "Jerusalem Women Speak: Three Women, Three Faiths, One Shared Vision." The women spoke about the Israeli occupation and problems that cause conflict in the area.
