Students Continue to Weigh In On the War

Date: 11/17/2008 05:28 pm

Students across the country continued to commemorate the four-year anniversary of the War in Iraq with protests, vigils, demonstrations, and more. In Pittsburg, more than 1,000 protesters—including students—gathered to protest and call for the immediate removal of troops from Iraq. A group of students at St. Olaf College organized “Peace Week.” Faculty and community members joined Macalester College students as they rallied against the war. George Washington University’s paper carried coverage of the massive D.C. protest. University of Kansas coverage includes news of a UK student, part of a protest by the Christian Peace Witness for Iraq, who was arrested in Washington D.C. The student was arrested for crossing a police barrier along with 121 others. Students at Muhlenberg College sponsored an event to “Sing Out Against the War.” Students at Syracuse University planned a weeklong series of protests. The most recent rally, to commemorate the start of the fifth year of the War in Iraq, was organized by the Student Peace Action Network and included members of the Student Environmental Action Coalition and the Syracuse Peace Council. A Crimson White article from the University of Alabama takes a close look at what student soldiers face on the fourth anniversary of the war.
