Students Fight Silent Relationship Abuse

Students at the University of Georgia have created an organization to advocate violence prevention and give a voice to the thirty-two million Americans who are silent sufferers of sexual or relational abuse.  The group, called Relationship and Sexual Violence Prevention, first came together in the fall of 2006 when sophomore founder Sissy Weldon recognized the need for information about sexual violence on campus. She formed the group in an effort to raise awareness on campus, to provide support for victims of sexual or relationship violence, and to offer peer education to the victims.  The club hopes to challenge cultural attitudes and misconceptions that perpetuate, condone, sustain and contribute to violence.
