Students Lobby for Higher Education Funding

The Associated Students of Colorado brought student government leaders from across Colorado to the statehouse on last week to support Governor Bill Ritter's proposal to increase funding for higher education by eight percent. The students acted in response to major decreases in higher education funding over the past five years, resulting in increased class size and tuition rises up to 16 percent in a single year. Although the eight percent increase would not fully solve Colorado’s higher education funding problems – it currently ranks 48th in the country in higher education funding - the student lobbyists hope to convince Colorado legislators of the value of investing in higher education in the long term.
