Over a dozen Northwestern students joined a videoconference with students in Burkina Faso, Ecuador, and Ghana to discuss the global fight against malaria. The disease (for which the medicine costs about $6-8 U.S. dollars) claims the lives of 3,000 children each day. Participants in the conference, which was sponsored by Americans for Informed Democracy, agreed that education and poverty were two barriers to disease prevention.
