Students participate in National Day of Silence

Date: 4/21/2009 4:39 pm

Schools across the country are participating in the 12th-annual national Day of Silence.  Participants take a vow of silence to call attention to the harassment brought against the LGBT community, and the silence that is forced from being in the closet.  At Eastern Washington University, students are joining with Counseling and Psychological Services to hold an “Out at EWU” panel, in addition to other “Breaking the Silence” events that will highlight the difficulty of having to keep quiet about sexual orientations. At San Jose State University, students held a candlelight vigil to reflect on what the Day of Silence means to them.  “Awareness is definitely an important thing” said SJSU student Eric Lei, “That’s a step towards equality.”
