About 40 Ball State University students gathered at noon on Friday to hold an on-campus protest against recent changes to the Women Studies Program. The changes include changing the name of the program to ‘Women and Gender Studies’ as well as requiring the program’s director to be a tenure or tenure track faculty member. Protestors argue that the program is also losing its office space, assistant director, funding and the annual production “The Vagina Monologues.”
Administrators claim that the protestors lack accurate information and that the changes are minor. They note that the number of offered courses is not being cut though there will be fewer sections per course.
