The Coalition for an Equitable Community (CFEC) at Florida State University, in collaboration with the Pride Student Union, held a demonstration to include protection for sexual orientation and gender identity in the university’s current nondiscrimination policy. The demonstrators also aimed to bring attention to exemptions that the Division of Student Affairs granted to some religious organizations allowing them to discriminate based on sexual orientation and still receive funding from student fees. The demonstrators eventually took their case of the Student Senate meeting and were able to convince representatives to pass two motions freezing funding for campus religious groups who failed to comply with non-discrimination policy.
