Students Protest, Reflect On the War in Iraq
The week of the fourth anniversary of the War in Iraq put the issue in the front of students' minds—and their papers. Organized walkouts took place at New York University, NC State, Binghamton University, and Rutgers University. At the University of Illinois, Rutgers University, Iowa State, Penn State, the University of Alabama, the University of Iowa, the University of Minnesota, Boston College, and the University of North Carolina, students held or joined local protests against the war. Students commemorated the dead in vigils, moments of silence, and star laying ceremonies, and students were a presence in protests in Washington D.C. as well. In related news, the Associated Students of Colorado State University (ASCSU) passed a resolution to denounce troop escalation in Iraq in a 12-8 vote—after much debate.
