Students Protest Strip Purchase

Students and business representatives rallied around their favorite hangout after the University of Alabama purchased the restaurant-filled strip. Students, organized by the Students for a Democratic Society (SDS) held a Save the Strip Walkout prior to the rally. Some students are boycotting University meals as well, opting instead to show their support for the local businesses. The rally was not without some controversy, however, as Student Government Association President Justice Smyth—who is supportive of saving the strip—used some microphone time to allege that the SDS was actually planning to use the rally to promote its March 20th anti-war events.
