Students Push for Climate Change Action

Students at the University of Maryland are coming together in support of a Student Government Association referendum that calls for the University “to become the country's largest purchaser of renewable energy among higher education institutions.” The referendum would be funded by a $12 per-student increase in student fees. Student activists from several universities initiated a four-day march on Trenton, New Jersey to promote action on global climate change. Throughout the one-hour kickoff event, speakers emphasized the need for clean energy, calling on the state of New Jersey to cut carbon emissions by 80 percent by the year 2050.
