Students to Select SAT Scores

Date: 11/17/2008 05:28 pm

Beginning in March 2009, high school students will be able to decide which SAT scores to send to colleges, according to the College Board which administers the standardized test. Currently students sending their SAT scores to colleges give the college permission to access all of their recorded SAT scores. Competition with the ACT, which already gives students the option to select which scores to reveal, may have spurred the College Board's decision. The Board also stands to make more money since students hoping to improve their scores will be able to take the test multiple times--paying an exam fee of $45 each time--without having colleges discover how many tries it took the students to reach their desired scores. Critics contend that the decision gives further advantage to wealthy students.
