On
Friday, January 12th, a group of students, faculty, and staff took part in a
trip to Birmingham, Alabama, dubbed the "Civil Rights
Immersion Trip." Along the trip, the participants saw civil rights
landmarks such as the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute and Kelly Ingram
Park. The trip was
sponsored by the CommUNITY Education Program (CUE), and was part of a weeklong
series of activities celebrating the life and contributions of Martin Luther
King Jr. Undergraduates made up about 80% of the group of 55. Many college
students continue to show an interest in civil rights and in the contributions
of past and future activists.
