Students are spending their spring breaks in a variety of ways, many opting to volunteer to help Hurricane Katrina victims rebuild their homes. Students from the University of Arizona are participating in the United Way of America’s inaugural Alternative Spring Break. The program has enlisted more than 300 students to help with the rebuilding. Eighty-two Smith College students headed to New Orleans with Habitat for Humanity, working to rebuild Musicians' Village in the Lower Ninth Ward. The Daily Orange reports that a record number of Syracuse University and SUNY Environmental Science & Forestry students have signed up for spring break trips with Habitat for Humanity as well. More than 400 students from Baylor University, a Baptist school, will travel to Mexico, Honduras, and India on mission trips this break. Mission trips generally combine service and ministry.
