Students Work to Expand Bottle Bill

Students from Syracuse University and State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry (SUNY ESF) were among the 150 people lobbying the New York State legislature to expand the Bottle Bill to noncarbonated drink containers. The Bottle Bill is the legislation that originally created the five-cent deposit on containers of beverages like beer and soda in New York State. Participants in the lobby day, representing more than 30 local, state, and nationwide organizations, hope an expanded bottle bill will encourage more recycling.  The New York Public Interest Research Group (NYPIRG) spearheaded the effort.
