Students Work to Save Darfur
The University of Chicago Maroon reports on attempts by their chapter of STAND (Students Taking Action Now: Darfur) to force the Board of Trustees to meet with them. The Board decided not to commit to divesting the University’s endowment from any companies profiting in the genocidal region of Africa. An online petition calling for Harvard University's divestment from Darfur has been circulating at that school, and has garnered more than 400 signatures. This petition comes after the Harvard Darfur Action Group requested a meeting with the University president to discuss a “model for targeted divestment from Sudan.” A Daily Bruin photo from the University of California Los Angeles depicts a “die-in,” held to raise awareness of the genocide in Darfur.
