Four years after Hurricane Katrina devastated Southern University of New Orleans, the school will receive $32 million in federal grants to rebuild academic buildings damaged from the storm. The announcement ends a long-running dispute between the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the university over the distribution of funds the school said it was entitled to but did not receive. The additional funding brings SUNO's federal aid total post-Katrina to $92 million. SUNO has already refurbished six buildings and broke ground on a new technology building, business school and a $44 million residential complex. The university has 85 percent of its pre-Katrina enrollment and expects 3,100 students to attend classes in the fall.
