Teach-Ins, Die-Ins, and Protests Against the War
The Columbia Coalition Against the War at Columbia University staged a teach-in last week, where 150 students gathered to hear a panel of veterans, activists, and professors speak and answer questions about the war in Iraq. Students from the UCLA chapter of Students for a Democratic Society also held a protest against the war as part of a larger, nationwide protest based on numerous college campuses. The SDS staged a die-in, in which more than two dozen participants “dropped dead” on the quad and lay there for over eight minutes before standing and handing out fliers. Between 700 and 1,000 UCSB students, faculty, staff and community members demonstrated against the war in Iraq by marching onto a highway last week. The demonstration resulted in two arrests. College republicans held a counter-protest/barbeque on a nearby balcony.
