The Coalition for Immigrant Rights butted heads with New Yorkers for Immigration Control when Columbia College Republicans invited members of the Minutemen Civil Defense Corps to an immigration panel discussion. The Coalition (a student group) protested the event, saying they were against events “propagating hatred” being held on campus grounds. Many counter-protesters were there to support the Minutemen panel. Several student groups at the University of Texas organized a display of messages from children being detained at a detention center for illegal immigrants, trying to call attention to conditions some describe as “inhumane.”
