The Independent Tiger

In a very brave and thoroughly
laudable decision, Clemson
University’s student
newspaper “The Tiger” has decided to end its reliance on student government
funding. Although the decision was prompted in part by a difference in opinion
over student media payroll, many people feel the decision resolves a wider
conflict of interest. Government-funded media, the argument goes, can
negatively affect objectivity. Editor-in-Chief Caroline Stone further explained
the decision, saying she hoped that not accepting the money would help the
paper to maintain a positive relationship with the student government.
