The Right to Know

This week the Society of College Journalists (SCJ) at North Carolina State University are working to raise awareness on campus for Sunshine Week, an initiative started by the American Society of Newspaper Editors to educate students on the importance of freedom of information. The SCJ will spend several days this week passing out flyers and engaging students in dialogues about the importance of open government and the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), which allows citizens to get information from public entities, like public colleges.  FOIA is certainly an important tool for student journalists, but also, as SCJ leaders pointed out, for student activists looking for transparency on their campus.
