When the Big Oak Flat-Groveland Park School Board in California voted to terminate popular math teacher Ryan Dutton’s contract, they had no idea their vote might cost them their jobs. Dutton was accused and then cleared by Cal State Fresno of cheating in a university course. Cal State apologized for any inconvenience, yet the board still fired Dutton. The day after his termination, the entire student body of the rural high school school protested by not attending class. In the following weeks the students, teachers and parents gathered over 6,000 signatures demanding a recall of the board. If the recall is certified, a new election will be held in May.
