The California State Senate Higher Education committee unanimously approved assembly Bill 1980, the Peralta Transportation Accessibility Act and California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger signed it into law on July 18. The act will allow the four schools in the Peralta Community College District to offer discounted, subsidized bus passes to students through the AC Transit EasyPass program. Students will vote on a fee to discount bus passes, and those who participate in the program will receive a bus pass included with their student ID. Students are thrilled with the new legislation, as it could save full-time students over $500 each year, and will promote a green economy.
