The student protest at the University of North Carolina asking Chancellor James Moeser to sign the Designated Suppliers Program (DSP) – a pact requiring the university to buy 75 percent of its licensed apparel from factories that pay living wages and allow collective bargaining -- ended after its third week. Members of Student Action with Workers, a chapter of United Students Against Sweatshops, started a sit-in April 17, occupying a section of a UNC administrative building. When an administrative committee rejected the DSP, students moved into the chancellor’s office, resulting in 5 arrests. 44 universities have already joined the program, including nearby Duke University.
