University of Vermont Removes Kimberly-Clark Products from Campus

Date: 11/17/2008 4:28 pm

A group of student activists belonging to the Forest Crimes Unit at the University of Vermont succeeded in removing Kimberly-Clark custodial products from the campus, making it the eleventh campus in the country to ban Kimberly-Clark. The paper product giant was targeted because they did not meet UVM’s environmental standards. Their products, which include facial tissue, toilet paper, and disposable cleaning products, use very little recycled material and result in “miles of boreal forests being clear cut to create a product that is used once.” The next step for the Forest Crimes Unit is to convince the university to divest from Kimberly-Clark through education on sustainable products and presenting environmentally friendly alternatives to paper products.
