Colleges across the country are being deeply affected by the country’s recent recession. The budget cuts that schools are faced with are not only affecting staff, but also incoming and present students. For many schools, such as Miami University and Syracuse University, the budget cuts mean lay offs for faculty and staff. At other campuses even employees who keep their jobs may suffer extreme pay cuts. Boston University is facing a $10 million deficit despite its hiring freeze in October. Student services are also taking a hit: at Princeton University the budget cuts are evident in the campus U-Store, where the hours of operation have been cut back to save money. For now, it is a spend-less, save-more agenda for Colleges.
