In what appears to be the end of a standoff, the Student Senate of the University of Rhode Island decided not to derecognize the College Republicans for refusing to issue an apology for their White Heterosexual American Male scholarship. URI’s President weighed in on the debate by asking the Senate to drop their demand for an apology, which the CR’s claimed constituted forced speech. A draft compromise bill, which Senate leadership worked with College Republican leaders to create, calls for a letter of clarification from the CR President to each scholarship applicant and an “explanation” to the student body from the Student Senate President.
