Michigan’s American Civil Liberties Union and the United States Student Association are filing a lawsuit against the state of Michigan. The lawsuit alleges that the state registrars are quick to reject voters that have an out-of-state driver’s license or have undeliverable voter registration cards. Both plaintiffs claim that many voters will be affected by this process, especially college students. They also argue that before removing people, the state must first confirm whether they can really vote in Michigan or not. However, Kelly Chesney, a spokesperson for the secretary of the state’s office, said that they have been doing this process for decades now without any opposition. She added that the two groups appear to be challenging Michigan’s Motor Voter Law.
