The February 9th Democratic and Republican caucuses in Washington State attracted an unprecedented number of voters. The 43rd Legislative District which includes the University of Washington and its surrounding areas, registered 935 new voters in the Democratic Party alone, and the overall student turnout doubled from the 2004. Students at the university were alerted on Facebook that they could use their university addresses to register to vote in the state of Washington at the caucus, and so many students turned out to register that some caucus locations had difficulty keeping up.
