Frustrated with students citing from the public encyclopedia, Middlebury College’s history department has banned the use of Wikipedia as a source for student papers. The ban will take effect sometime this month, according to the article that originally appeared in Middlebury’s newspaper. Scholars have debated the use of Wikipedia from its inception, and the debate continues today. While the faculty of Middlebury’s history department is resoundingly against students relying upon the open-source encyclopedia, the faculty of the College of William and Mary voice their concern about the banning of the source.
